When are people going to understand that your hourly rate has much less to do with how much you make than you think. Your contract and work rules are the driving force. You can have a guy that makes $90/hour with great work rules that makes more than a guy making $100/hour with horrible work rules. Negotiations would go in pilots favor much more if they weren't so obsessed with the hourly rate. I just flew with a senior guy who makes $92/hour that made around $115k last year.....not because he makes over $100/hour but because we have pretty good work rules allowing him to be more productive by working less. Pay you can get back, work rules not so much.

I would bet dollars to donuts that he is including per diem in his figures (which is misleading). Plus, I don't care how "good" the work rules are, it's still a REGIONAL(see pay rates)!
But, I could see a sim instructor living at the school house making 100 k, but not a line pilot.

I'd like some single malt scotch next. Now that I think about it, I should've posted "Always with 'em negative waves! Instead of being negative, why can't you say what a beautiful day it is, (and that you're flying for a living)?" Oddball is my hero.

Is that like Moose Drool? I was intrigued when I saw it on tap the other night. Couldn't try it as I was driving my pregnant wife & 2 yr old.

What do you mean, it`s still a "REGIONAL?" Obviously people want to move on to bigger and better things but i really cannot fault someone who has a great schedule, great pay, home everynight and cares more about their family then being attached to the "REGIONAL" stigma as you say. Just because they are flying around less people does not change the fact that the basic job description is the same as a mainline pilot, which is moving people from point "A" to point "B."

Looking at some of the lines here at Eagle, there are a number of them which are very posh. No overnights, some with only a few, less than 200 hours TAFB, etc... If you live in base and hold those lines...bingo. You have it made. Throw in a Captain's salary and things can be great.

Meaning that at the regional level, the regional/contracted carrier is 100% at the whims of the mainline partners they feed for. The trickle down effects can swing from one side to the other from month to month. Last minute schedule changes, crappy pairing/line build, higher than normal average line value/line divisors, what have you. One month the bid pack can contain lines of flying that are sweet whether you're a commuter OR live in base. The next month, everything goes to crap with nothing but a few commutable 4 days and the resto a hodgepodge of non commutable/multi day garbage. When our biggest base had 500 lines of flying, the amount of good lines was plentiful. Now that it's shrank to less than 300 lines, eh, not so much.
Note, this issue is NOT unique to line bid companies, PBS can be just as crappy as we're finding out from our ASA brethren. Under even the best PBS software, if the pairings suck, all PBS does is award sucky pairings. Under line bid, if the pairings suck, all the scheduling guys can do is build the best lines they can from sucky pairings.
This is making me crave Guinness, lots and lots of Guinness.

before anyone thinks im depressed and ready to leave this job thats not what i was getting at. I personally am enjoying republic. sure i would like more money but who doesnt. I was telling the other guy to shut up. there is a very big difference between quality of life from senior captain to reserve captain to senior FO and reserve FO. some times all it takes is a month difference in hire date at the same company and the expirence becomes totally opposite. no one should fault the guy for saying screw it and sitting down and having a drink.

You guys can send us all a postcard telling us all about how much better it is in the the rest of the U.S. economy.
