Wink

How a captain is to a jumpseater from another carrier is how he is to people generally. This rule works 100% of the time.

If you can be rude to a stranger in the same tight-knit industry, you're an aye-hole to most people.

Agreed. No reason to tiptoe around these jackasses. I've found putting things rather bluntly to a guy who's used to pushing crewmembers around gets attention.

Maybe you should have gone back to the gate and told the gate agent to let him on? You are just as responsible for leaving someone there in this case.
force the CA to tell them no instead of lettimg him be so wishy washy.

What supersix said.

You should have brought the JS down the jetway with you, and let him introduce himself to the Captain.

As a life long commuter, I don't want to leave a J/S at the gate; however, I'm not sure I'd take it as my duty to walk off a flight to make the point. You don't know what may have transpired prior to you seeing this other pilot in the boarding area and possibly there may be other circumstances involved. In any case, at several companies I am familiar with, that would get you a nice personal visit with your Chief Pilot. Trying to defend a "Gee Mr. Chief Pilot, I didn't think it was right to leave a J/S'er in the boarding area so I decided to delay the flight to make a point" would probably get you some time on the beach.

There are ways to handle a Captain who may not grasp the commuters life, but I'm not sure that's one of them.

Just my two cents...devalued to $ .01876 on today's market close.

+1 on walking him down the jetway and introducing him to the CA. Harder to say no in person.
