Three federal Transportation Security Administration officers, a Florida state trooper and a New York police officer were charged today with accepting bribes for allowing a drug dealer to pass through airport security checkpoints with tens of thousands of prescription narcotic painkillers.
A drug dealer arrested April 8 told Drug Enforcement Administration agents he gave cash and gift cards to two TSA officers at Palm Beach International Airport in West Palm Beach, Fla., and one TSA officer at Westchester County Airport in White Plains, N.Y., so he could pass through airport security carrying oxycodone pills and large amounts of cash, said Special Agent Steven Derr of the DEA's New England field division.
The dealer told agents he made more than 65 trips to Florida to purchase thousands of pills from suppliers and then resell them to dealers in Stamford, Conn., court papers say.
The law enforcement agents allegedly "sold their badges and abuse their authority" to assist an illegal drug ring, Derr said.
Charged with conspiring to distribute and possession with intent to distribute oxycodone are TSA officers Christopher Allen, 45, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., John Best, 30, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Brigitte Jones, 48, of the Bronx, N.Y.; NYPD officer Michael Brady, 36; and Florida trooper Justin Kolves, 28.
