Motorist goes to court over little-known flashing headlights law - Florida - MiamiHerald.com

I hope the guy kicks the state's butt on this case. If cops can be sneaky and hide, use A/C or any of the other tricks to catch you speeding, then I say it is OK for motorist to band together as a team and warn each other. Afterall if the objective is for cops to be seen so that they show presence and thus making the world safer, then what is the cop in the bush doing with a radar gun. Plain and simple revenue production. Speeding tickets have nothing to do with safety it is all about money.

As was explained to a co-worker who was pulled over for flashing his lights to warn other motorists; wouldn't it be ashamed it a kidnapper for instance (think Amber Alert) was warned of possible law enforcement presence ahead and got off the road. He wasn't issued a ticket, just asked not to do it.

I don't think I have ever seen an amber alert or any other road block where the police were actually doing something important with all of the police lined up with radar guns and writing tickets. Same thing with any other police check point I have come accross. The one time I did end up in a real road block near a prison break, you knew they were looking for someone not just out making money for the city.

I completely understand your point but it is pretty far fetched that a kidnapper would be warned in such a way. I will make sure that if there is an Amber alert that I don't flash anyone but when I am coming down the highway and there is an unmarked car sticking out of a bush along the road I will be flashing my lights to help out other traffic. You know just to remind them to pay attention and do the speed limit.

You are missing the larger picture in a big way.
Have you never seen the program 'I Almost Got Away With It!' or any episode of 'Cops' ?
The situation could be used to warn ANY fugitive or ANY person engaging in illegal activity (ever heard of I-95 referred to as 'America's drug highway'?) that there is law enforcement ahead.
If that much isn't enough to possibly reconsider your point of view and actions then I'll end with reminding you of ONE name:
TIMOTHY MCVEIGH
"Shortly after the bombing, while driving on I-35 in Noble County, near Perry, Oklahoma, McVeigh was stopped by Oklahoma State Trooper Charles J. Hanger from Pawnee, Oklahoma.[50] Hanger had passed McVeigh's yellow 1977 Mercury Marquis and noticed that it had no license plate. McVeigh admitted to the police officer (who noticed a bulge under his jacket) that he had a gun and McVeigh was subsequently arrested for having driven without plates and illegal firearm possession;..."

Maybe if highway law enforcement would focus on stopping dangerous and harmful activity instead of generating revenue people wouldn't view them as the adversary on the highway. hey brought this on themselves.

A citation for 12-over is not about safety, it's about money.

And FL is especially bad, it's just a racket here.

As for someone who commits a capital crime and then drives away in a car with no plates...Darwin.

Same here in VA. A town called Emporia that is notably the "speed trap" capital of the world. Speed trap dot com use to have 10 or so pages dedicated to emporia.

I remember Emporia, VA well!
I use to travel I-95 quite often up and down the east coast from FL to the DC area.

I flash my brights probably 4-5 times a week while driving at night to warn people of dangers on the road, mainly animals. Many of them probably think I'm warning them of a speed trap, but if I can get them to slow down and save their car or even their life, it's worth it to me. Flashing the brights is a communication tool, just like the horn, and we shouldn't let that be taken away from us for ridiculous reasons.
