Default Roommate in SFO?

I'm not sure yet but I think there is a good chance I will be based in SFO based on how I bid and the current need for pilots there. I know this is unlikely but does anybody know of an inexpensive apartment near SFO in a descent community or need a roommate in or near the Bay Area?

Thanks...

Bahahaha! Modesto comes to mind, housing costs are way down there. But a 3-4 hour drive would be tough on reserve.

You're not from the bay area are you? All payscales except airline pilot are adjusted for the high cost of living there. Gas-station attendants get paid more than you will...a lot more. You'd be lucky to afford something in bad part of town, I have a friend who's a corporate FO and she lives a very modest life...on $120K

Maybe you can find someone who has a room and will give you discount on the assumption that you'll be gone a lot?

All the SKW folks I know who bid SFO have a high-paid spouse, a room at the parents house, or live in the SJ valley (lineholders).

Yup, going through the same process myself. Think it's going to be a commute and stay in the crash pad or RV if that's how it goes down. Like Ricky said, prices are friggin through the roof. Jump on craigslist and you'll laugh at where you need to set the price range for a studio. And when you're not up for the crashpad yet (and who knows I just may do that?) the motor home in the lot like the UAL guys at LAX starts to look not so crazy.

And let’s be clear, it’s not like advocating for the “ van by the river with a mattress” as a critic dismissed the concept on another thread, but a decent, safe space to have a good night sleep (compared to the ear plugs and face mask that a crash pad can engender) without the hassle of transportation to and from the airport. There is a reason why my friend and other do this.
