From where, Minot?
The cornerstone of the NORAD/FAA procedures was and is timeliness in launching and intercepting targets. The metric they use is seconds.
Without speed, there is really no purpose in having national air defense system, is there?

If you do.....I'm really surprised at your comments and would remind you of the times that we are living when there aren't airborne alerts up 24/7. The cornerstone as you say is in early warning and already having people inplace to react. Also - we don't have warp speeds yet, so nothing except the actual engagement might be over in "seconds"
