Some good advice I got one time is, don't just blurt out something the captain is doing wrong, unless it looks like he is about to kill you, but instead drop hints, so that he thinks he figured it out himself. Giving hints, but only when needed, in sim world is appreciated to.

I found it was easiest to fly like the captain.. I would always fly second if I had the option so I could study the techniques of the captain. If they flew using FLC mode, so did I.. If they were fuel savers and cruised at .68 so did I (although I hated that!).
Be early to the hotel van in the morning. If anyone is going to be late let the captian be the one. Don't be a chatter box unless the captain is talkative. Act interested in his gold investment even if you could care less.. Know your job, don't do his, talk professionally on the radio. Last, never touch the seatbelt sign or make a non standard PA without being told to!

What makes a good FO?

Exactly the same as what makes a good CA.

Same job function, different rank...

You don't think much of yourself, do you.

Fo's

Don't act interested in anything if you're not. Be honest with yourself and your surroundings. Chat if you want to. If you're talking to a brick wall, stop. If you think the seat belt sign could be switched or an announcement could be made, communicate. If the captain disagrees, he wins. Rest assured in the ranking system to function when it is genuinely needed.

Ca's

Relax and act natural. Unless challenged, do not manufacture idiosyncrasies to artificially create an environment of constant authority affirmation. Put your foot down when needed, strengthen the team when not.

But most of all COMMUNICATE! (yes those were caps)

What if I did sleep in it the night before, do I get special dispensation?
Note: He didn't say you can't sleep in your uniform, he said don't LOOK as if you slept in it.

Come on people! There is a very easy technique for this, take your shirt off and hang it somewhere while you sleep (bag handle on overnight bag works well or a seat back). When awake, put said shirt back on.

On that note, please wear an undershirt, no one wants to see your back hair.

And this technique depends on no one deciding to mess with you or your stuff.

Good F/O's don't take any sh*t from arrogant kid captains... Also, if the plane is broke, don't let them "carry" the discrepancy to the next base or until the end of the day. When I say broke, I mean safety of flight,,, not coffee makers.
Thankfully, most captains are knowledgable and have loads of commons sense. Watch out for the idiots... they are out there.
