FAA Shutdown

Being one of them now, I have to say what outrage would be shared on this board if someone came on and gave big high fives for 4,000 airline employees being laid off.
Your opinions of "what's the bad news" and "win-win" are terrible.

Wonder how this will affect the final ruling on the FT/DT workings. The airlines must be loving the possibility of this failing.

You beat me to it. This is horrible news for many workers, and for our economy.

For the "win-win" crowd, consider what your company may do without anyone looking over their shoulder. Do you trust your maintenance department, your dispatchers, and your management to do the right thing every time a tough decision has to be made? As annoying, wasteful and misguided as they may be, I would rather have a bad FAA than none at all (sort of like a union). I doubt planes will start crashing tomorrow, but does anyone think that this industry can be trusted to regulate itself?

Yup. And just like you we are all hostages of political peeing matches. It's not about what's right or wrong, it's about what's best for them. I hope this is resolved soon.

I am an airline pilot. Everyone else is useless and overpaid. Except me. That is why the public is so sympathic to my plight and desire to be home eighteen days a week. They all want to ensure that my paycheck elevates above $125k a year. For their safety.
(FYI, that was sarcasim.)

The difference is 1. the FAA is as efficient as the DMV on quaalude and 2. as friendly as a pit bull. If this were an airline the sympathy would be much higher based on the sheer facts of 1&2 alone. Also the majority of the airline people have spent time on the ropes whereas the FAA puts people on the ropes.
Also what airline could put 4,000 people on the street yet still operate? That is an awful lot of NON ESSENTIAL personnell.

I'm not happy that some good people are out of work. What you are seeing is people venting their frustration about an inefficient and corrupt management of government entity that is supposed to regulate safety, but panders to the whims of big business lobbyists.
