I hope he's a better doctor than he is a pilot.

threeighteen, there's probably a good chance oxygen was on board. I know Bonanzas will get regularly fly high enough to need it, but I haven't been able to find anything about if he had any on board that flight or not.

t207, I hadn't even thought about the fuel vapors. I know there was definitely fuel on the crash this past weekend however, because investigators on the scene commented about fuel leaking onto the homeowner's driveway.

Mich. plane crash kills survivor of earlier crash - US news - msnbc.com

This isn't the article I mentioned in my earlier post, but they do have a few quotes from a friend of the pilot (also a doctor) who speaks to his belief that there was no way he ran out of fuel.

I suppose the good news is he won't get a third chance.

And you do have total fuel vs usuable fuel. I know in a lowly c172 you have 3 extra gallons of fuel you can't use. Maybe a bonanza carries more. Plus like earlier poster said, air plus fumes would be a more significant explosion over a big tank of fuel

Yet another reason, I always start a trip with full tanks. Hell, I rarely let them get below 1.5 hours of usable remaining. I hear guys talk about not buying gas outside of their home base to save $$$, so they push their luck and try to make it back. More than once those same people have landed with <10-15 minutes of fuel on board. Stupid! Unfortunately, for this guys family, they paid the ultimate price for his bad ADM.

As was said earlier, run out of gas in mil a/c and you may never see the cockpit again!

Suspend his certificate, permanent like. It amazes me how some guys can come up with any kind of justification for an idiot pilot who kills innocent people due to his/hers own neglect. YOU and only YOU are responsible for the safe conduct of YOUR flight and the safe transport of YOUR passengers. If you need to make excuses, get out of Aviation.

I read on one of the websites (of course I can't find it now) that the oxygen bottle behind the pilots seat exploded/caught on fire and led to the massive fire, that alone with unusable fuel in the tanks seems easily possible to cause the fire in my eyes.....

Deleted in the interest of keeping my Blood pressure normal. I will say this, the arrogance of pilots who think they are above it all usually means they are next, and there appears to be a few of you here. Food for thought.
