I always like to learn things by reading news stories.

Just confirms what we already knew. Who wants to go to US Airways and get paid 35K a year to fly a 190? It's just not worth it anymore. People like to blame scope but even if they eliminated all regional flying tomorrow and brought everything in house I doubt the entry level pay scales would be much better. I don't want to go on a rant but I've said before the only real solution is to end this pyramid/ponzi scheme of wages based on longevity. We need one level of pay for everyone with modest increases for longevity. This is how many foreign airlines operate and it works. Nobody wants to spend a decade or more working for slave wages anymore. Set a liveable pay rate for everyone and they'll have no problem finding qualified pilots.

Still, he could have said it differently. It's not like anything has changed since then anyways. All the regionals (well most) are hiring people with 300 hrs and no IMC time. This industry seems to suprise me all the time. Hopefully the 1500 hr rule will help with this (doubt it).

You know it's sad when Flight Attendants feel sorry for your pay and qol. I agree with the article and it's not surprising that the airlines still feel they can kick the can down the road. It's going to be great to see them trying to put the fire out years from now or maybe even by next year.
