Odds are that I am wrong but it seems legit.
Theres an FAA legal interpretation floating around somewhere that flying experience counts as compensation.

Most companies I've flown for have not thought highly of any banks greater than 30 degrees, let alone doing flying on the side.

That legal interpretation was referencing 14 CFR 61.118, "Private Pilot Privileges and Limitations."

We get to fly on our days off..It's called Junior Assignment.Actually our contract says Junior Available, so we just tell them we are unavailable.
Works sometimes.

I wouldn't have any of the company telling me what I can/can't do. Not their place. Truck drivers use two logbooks, why not you? Worry less, fly more.

Unfortunately, the company... who decides the future of your employment, and the FAA... who decides the future of your certificates... do not agree.

Perhaps if wages in the airline industry were similar to the wages in the trucking industry we wouldnt have this thread...can of worms I know! The only people that are trying to fly on the side are just trying to make ends meet.

I was able to pull it off for a long time (under 2 yrs) but then i just had enough. You really do need some time to unwind from a trip. You are mentally burnt at the end of a 4 day and it is even worse when you are an FO trying to mold the way you operate into the way a difficult captain operates. Most captains are cool and easy to work with but every once in awhile things happen or your personalities dont mesh and you are really mentally spent at the end of a trip.

I was completely honest with my company and as long as I didn't ask them for any favors to make my schedule work they were willing to let me try. Now that we are continually short staffed, rolled days, little chance of getting more days off... it would be hard to pull it off again. Time off is a precious commodity.

Do you think the T-45 operator in your tagline will ever tell you what you can/can't do?

How will you respond to their "requests"?
