Default "fly-in" vacation spots?

I try to suprise my wife now and then by taking her somewhere fun in the plane for a night or two just for the heck of it. We have gone to OC MD, Outer banks NC and a few others but it is always fly in and go to a hotel.

I am wondering if anyone knows of any cool places (prefer east coast) that have cabins or some sort of rentals at an airport or airpark. We fly out of KCPK in VA so it would be nice to have something within a few hours. Maybe something in the mountains with cabins on a grass strip or something or the beach. Any ideas? Most of the stuff I am finding is either in Alaska or Canada.

Not exactly within your geographical specifications, but Sun River resort in Oregon has their own airport. Nike takes their execs there.

If you ever get a chance for a longer trip, you may want to look into it.

Thanks for the reponse. That would be a long haul in a 172. I have thought about doing something like a 2 week around the country flight. My wife and I would love to fly by Mt Rushmore and a few other spots.

Again kind of far for a 172, but Gaston's Resort in AR (3M0) is a really nice one. I've taken our Saratoga in there a few times.

Cedar Mills, TX is another good one (3T0).

I found this site while searching. I haven't had a chance to look at it but it has a section for cool places to fly to. I have no connection to the site.
