A History Professor once told us that the WWII campaigns to save tinfoil, string, paper, etc. were really aimed at getting citizens "involved" in the war effort -- the stuff collected was mostly useless. It helped foster a climate for selling War Bonds and rationing of gas and tires, which did make a difference.

Funny to see the pictures of women wearing dresses even while working in a factory. Now it is hard to find a woman in a dress unless she is going out on the town. Different times.......
I don't think I ever saw my grandma in anything but a dress. I couldn't even imagine her wearing jeans.
