"About 30 deputies are working the red-light running detail to bring awareness how dangerous it is to run a red light. Sixty six citations were issued, 50 were for running the traffic signal."

"Tickets were issued by a team of 20 motorcycle patrol deputies, based on the laser speed detection run by leprechaun Lockman "

"Five deputies issued 10 citations between in the 20 mph zone"

Seems like an awful lot of manpower for not many tickets.

Police handed out about 250 speeding tickets in two days in Kissimmee, Fla.
Of course it doesn't say the timeframe for the tickets in any of the quotes in the article. This could have been a day long operation OR a two hour operation.

I've seen the cops on the overpasses on major highways before with the speedgun and then radioing the description of the vehicle on to waiting patrol cars a quarter mile down the road.

I need to look at moving to FL. Obviously if they have the time, money and manpower to put such an effort into watching a traffic light, all of the true crime in FL must already be solved and that makes it the safest place in the US to live.

I am not saying that running a red light or doing a California stop is right or safe but come on, these cops don't have real crime to solve?

Ridgeland, SC on I-95 has automated cameras that snap you coming and going to get the driver's face and then the license plate (SC only puts plates on the back) if you're speeding. Expect a ticket in the mail within the week. No police officers needed.

This one has raised a stink with the lawyers, but hey, if you're speeding you're breaking the law.

REAL CRIME as you say doesn't produce any money though

Houston had red light cameras .... for a while. We just voted to have them all removed.

I heard that Phoenix had them removed too. They got a lot of attention, especially after that one pilot was caught on camera wearing the monkey mask to avoid detection. I heard that didn't work.
