I had a bad run in with B-bugs last year in florida. I was bitten so bad that I ended up in the ER. It took about 12-24 hours for the bite to show up but when they did it was bad. I ended up on steroids and had to take them for a week and then I had to wait one week after the meds (per my AME) before I could fly. It sucked big time. Now I have recently been staying in a hotel for training and got bit again although not as bad. I told the hotel and they came up and removed the headboard from the wall and thats where they all were. I just changed hotels but had to take all my stuff to the laundry and run it in the dryer on high for an hour.
One thing to do is never bring your crew bag into the house when you get home. Always take your bag and empty it and stick your clothes in the wash and dry them well. Other clothing if not dry cleaned can be stuck in in garment bags with mothballs. Heat or severe cold is a good way to ensure bedbugs are dead. If you can not heat your suitcase then mothball it too in a garbage bag.
All this trouble might sound like it is too much but it is a hell of a lot less work then trying to get rid of bugs once they get into your home.
