I just finally finished getting my degree from Indiana University in Criminal Justice, and I have to say that I am glad I did it that way. I have been kicked around by the regionals since 08 and its always nice to have a sure-fire fallback (although practically no one in law enforcement is hiring). Get your degree in something other than aviation because you never know what is going to happen in this industry. This way if I get fed up I can always say F it and go back to law enforcement.

USMC-Sgt -> DO it and don't wait... I just finished my degree fully paid for by uncle Sam, and the housing allowance was VERY nice. Even if you go part time, you can still get some of the housing benefits... DONT DELAY!! I wish I hadnt...

I went to Southeastern Oklahoma State University. It is a regular university with an aviation program. The chair of the department is former military and the flight department is very structured. The washout rate is probably a little higher than other schools, but I believe it's a result of very good training and high performance demands. The cost was the cheapest in the country when I went. It also has a very active aviation alumni association that meets at least once a year to network with students and help our fellow alumni out. PM me for info. I can get you in contact with some people.

A.A. from Palomar Community College then transferred ----> Southern Illinois University (off campus program) = about $10,000 TOTAL for a B.S. Degree - get all your ratings at the "local" flight school, SKIP the pretentious "Aviation Dork" Universities and take alllllll that fricken money you're gonna save and purchase a home, or a girlfriend, if you fit that "aviation dork" mold. Good Luck.

+1 for Illinois. Great program... if they start letting freshman enroll again.

B.S. Professional Aeronautics, Embry-Riddle, Orlando Extended Campus.
Master of Aeronautical Science, Embry-Riddle, Worldwide Online.

The extended campus is 1/3 the cost of the main campus and you can get up to 36 credits for flight time and pilot certificates.

Did anyone else go to FIT?? That's my number one school right now (I'll be applying in a few months.) What's the job placement like there? And do they offer good internships?

Fit 05 here.... I got a paid internship with JetBlue in Fort Lauderdale between my junior and senior year. Not sure what job placement is like these days but I know a lot of instructors just got hired at mesaba and eagle. I liked FIT a lot.... I'm in Hawaii with a bunch of my old Fraternity Brothers right now reminiscing about how much fun we had!
