Question; Aircraft Maintenance Logbook
#3
Could you rephrase/clarify the question? I know what balancing a check book is, but never heard the term "balance the AML."

Can't think of any airlines that would have the pilot fill in the corrective action... unless it was something we could fix ourselves... but can't think of anything off the top of my head. Even if the pilot had his A&P, he probably isn't qualified to sign off the aircraft he's flying simply by a lack of maintenance experience on that aircraft and/or company policy restricting such an action.

He is asking if there are any other airlines out there that have the flight crew defer an item per an MEL and document it in the logbook like this:
Problem: overhead reading light seat 4B inop
corrective action: overhead reading light seat 4B deferred per MEL 21-18
The captain fills out both the problem and the corrective action part of the log book and MELs the light. Maintenance does not need to get involved until the MEL expires.
I'm assuming he works for American Eagle as this policy took affect yesterday. They have had so many fines due to maintenance the past few years they have come up with a way to shift the blame from the mechanics to the pilots. Crewmembers are prohibited from troubleshooting a problem unless there is guidance from the AOM.
