Disassociated Press reports that Secret Agent Palmer "The Palm" nabbed Bin Laden while on an overnight in Pakistan. Bin Laden was tracked down by "The Palm" while twittering to his many disciples.

In a hastily conducted interview on the crew bus, "The Palm" remarked "it was nothing really. I had been waiting until I could hold a Pakistan overnight. Once PBS assigned me the required trip I quickly assembled my team and had a D0 departure for an on time arrival. Using methods taught only to me I surrounded the compound and stormed the building single handily. After a quick burial at sea I returned to the hotel for eight hours of shut eye and a D0 departure back to the states. I really don't understand the big deal".

Thanks man. Just spewed coffee on my iPhone!

The non-disclosure requirement would have probably been after Chuck's time. The requirement came about because some old-school guys (mainly Marcinco) wrote books, not all which painted DoD in a positive light.

That's why there a plenty of books about the old days, not so many about current events.

The DoD will certainly allow you to publish something which is reasonably positive and does not violate OPSEC or give away tactics, techniques, etc. But the guys on this op could spend the rest of their lives looking over their shoulders if their names got out.

"Lone Survivor" could not have been published without DoD vetting every single page.

I love reading about military events & history, particularly from people who were there first hand. But I couldn't finish it with the amount of political comments that he inserted in almost every several pages. Say your story, but please don't spend page after page inserting some anti-left joke. I can turn on FOX News at home if I wanted to be bombarded with that.

As for the NDA thing...I dunno, I guess its has its pros and cons. I'm glad to know that Bo Girtz is slime and screwed up the US operations to go and rescue POWs in Vietnam by running his mouth in the press (from Eric Haneys book).

The theoretical intent of the non-disclosure rule is that it protects people's lives by not giving away operational information. A side effect is that it could be used to hide things which might not reflect well on an organization...but the good news is that sort of stuff tends to find it's way to the press anyway (ie the whole Pat Tillman affair, which was handled by the army in a manner which I personally consider to be totally despicable).

I haven't read this particular book, but I would agree with you on every count.

Do you wish the same thing though for example if you went to a concert and had to listen to a certain entertainer / or group spout off their 'other' political views.
Personally - I didn't pay money to listen to anyone's political views.
I went to a hear a speech from Mike Farrell (MASH fame) that was billed as a talk about his time spent on 'MASH'. It turned out to be more of a political commentary. I was disappointed. I don't mind him giving his views, but if I had known I was in for a psuedo-political rally I would have chosen not to go.

Mod note:
I question I ask is not an invitation for all to turn this discussion into a political debate. It was a simple question if the poster disapproved of a certain technique employed by writers, actors, entertainers, etc.....
