Change your name to Charles Francis Irving - and then just sign everything with your initials.

I sign work related stuff with "chief pilot" if it's some sort of legal type thing where it carries some meaning.

Writing it on aimless things like dinner receipts...yeah not so much.

With a PhD you don't have to put Miss, Ms, or Mrs. in front of your name.
Dr. is so much more gender-neutral.

It is true that academic degrees rule the world in terms of simple prestige. I have an engineering degree from a good college as well as minors in two other fields and a variety of instructor certs. Am I very smart? No, a little above average. I think about how my PhD students fly crappy ILSes and get multiple dots out of slope whenever I feel bad about myself. My father has two PhDs and the fool cannot tie his shoes without getting crossed. Look to academics as proof of struggle. We should judge ourselves on a more short term basis.

Obviously, the former(s) require a considerable amount of academic work, but I don't think there's a disparity between the amount of PRACTICAL work we do for that certificate. It is a serious commitment, and a small "fraternity."
Pretty laughable to compare a CFI to an MD.

As Jules would say,

"...it ain't even the same f'n sport!"

If my friend, who is a MD, ever introduced himself in a social setting as Dr. Dave, he would immediately be spun around and powerwedgied. Needless to say a CFI or Captain, would get the same. In a Professional setting or conventions, it is perfectly acceptable. The written equivalent, the same goes.
