Let's hope you never end up with a medical condition that affects your brain. I would disagree. We have no idea why this pilot wanted to do what he did. If could have been stupidity. It could have been a neurological disorder like a brain tumor.

Jumping to conclusions usually leads to the wrong one.

My friend was a well respected 121 Captain that asked if he could taxi down the interstate to get to his car quicker. Three weeks later he was having brain surgery.

Unless you know this person who landed on the beach...you have no idea why he did it...do you?

Did your well-respected 121 Captain friend actually taxi down the interstate or did he just ask?

Fortunately for him he had a First Officer that asked him what the hell he was talking about.

Unfortunately in this case the 21 year old girl and 22 year old man with this pilot may not have even known anything was wrong. They could have been in the back seat enjoying the ride. We don't know.

My point to all of this is while no one knows all the facts we are quick to call names and point blame. Let's hope none of us are on the wrong end of the blame game.

If it turns out after the investigation that this was on purpose, I'll be the first to ask for his license and medical plus charges.

Until then? Like I said.....I don't jump to conclusions on my flight deck so I won't here either.

Ok, I'm not really sure what your trying to say as far as your friend is concerned. It sounds like your saying he wanted to taxi off the airport property and down the interstate so that he could get to his car quicker, but his First Officer stopped him. Is this the scenario?

As far as this guy is concerned, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say he knew very well what he was doing. He had had it in his mind exactly what he wanted to do and tried to snake his way around ATC to get that. The pilot changed his circumstances at least once or twice as for the reasoning for the precautionary landing. Teensy Bit of Engine Roughness to A Medical Issue with One of His Passenagers.

Jumping to conclusions is something I try to avoid, but most of this community has a lot of trained professional pilots who can piece together elements of an incident merely by listening to an ATC transcript.
Usually I would agree, but in this case I'm going to go out on a limb and say there was absolutely no medical or mechanical reason for this pilot to land on the beach, and furthermore, I will bet he is lying about having seizures now as a way to cover up for his idiotic behavior.

I guess this moron doesn't understand the concept of "Tundra Tires" or that Alaska plays by a different set of rules than the other 49 states.

Deadhead, What I am saying is that what this pilot did is almost exactly what my friend did. He had it in his mind that he could just taxi down a highway straight to his car. Where he got the idea no one knows. A brain tumor had his brain so mixed up he though he could do it. A First Officer stopped him.

This pilot had it in his mind that he could land on the water like "Flying Wild Alaska." To me it sounds like he convinced himself it was a good idea and went about lying to ATC to do it.

I hope for his sake it was a medical condition. Brain tumors cause the mind to do all kind of crazy things.

You believe he was just lying and wanted to do it.

Keep in mind there are also a lot of immature flame baiters on here as well as professionals. IMHO, professionals want to know the facts before deciding on a persons guilt.

I hope for his sake it isn't a medical condition. Better to do something stupid and have your certificates yanked than have a possibly irreversible medical condition that would not only end his flying hobby but kill any chance he had of a medical career either.

Good point Abort. However, my friend is about 1 year away from getting his career back after a brain tumor. Lets pray if it was a medical, he will be alright. Sometimes you can't fix stupid!

Regardless of the reasons, medical or otherwise, that caused this guy to do what he did, he still fits the dictionary definition of an idiot:

id·i·ot [id-ee-uht]

–noun
1. an utterly foolish or senseless person.

IMO he's an idiot until proven innocent.
