Alaska Lawmaker Refuses TSA Patdown At SEA
So a mastectomy now calls for a pat-down. What if someone had a hysterectomy? Would the woman get a .... No, nevermind, this is too much to even consider.
An Alaskan state representative who refused a TSA pat-down at Sea-Tac airport Sunday is returning home by ferry, after she had come to Seattle for medical treatment, underwent a body scan at Sea-Tac, and was then ordered to undergo a pat-down.
An aide for Rep. Sharon Cissna said Transportation Safety Administration screeners had called for the pat-down because the scan showed Cissna had had a mastectomy, the Associated Press reported.
But it was not immediately clear why the mastectomy would have warranted such a search. The state congresswoman’s aide, chief of staff Michelle Scannell, called the search “intrusive.”
Reported the AP:
Cissna, 68, was heading to Juneau via ferry.

Reported the AP:
TSA spokesman Kwika Riley was asked to respond to Cissna’s comments when contacted by The Associated Press. But a general statement issued later did not mention her or her claims, saying the agency is “sensitive to the concerns of passengers who were not satisfied with their screening experience and we invite those individuals to provide feedback to TSA.”
After news of Cissna’s refusal spread across the country, the many critics of TSA cheered her stance. “Good for Ms Cissna and these vile Gestapo Gropesters deserve exposure as the fraud this is on the traveling public,” said one typical comment on the Huffington Post. Cissna, 68, was heading to Juneau via ferry.
