Looks kinda like my Sim City creations when I was a kid 
. It will be interesting to see if these cities will fill up some day, and even more interesting to see if China can sustain an 8% economic growth, which is fueling this investment. I wonder what it would be like to drive around in an empty city like that..

Wouldn't be surprised if it was an accidental release of biological or chemical weapons. Happened in Russia during the cold war - entire towns ravaged due to biological/chemical weapons mishaps. In some cases, they blamed it on "tainted meat sold on the black market"
