Apples and oranges.....a prostate exam protects Yourself...you are looking out for your own well being. You simply can't compare the two. I believe for the sake of this industry, we need to solve this problem. Telling people if you don't like it then don't fly just doesn't cut it. If people stop flying because of the hassle of security then we are back to furloughs again.

1) Walk through the strip scanner and except the consequences (both morally and phycally) .
2) Opt-out and get “your junk groped by a professional federal officer( that’s what they like to called)
3) Big Sis says “If you don’t like it don’t fly”. Easier said than done for most of us.
4) Get a good lawyer/ call Congress
5) All the above.

I Don't Think So
Every day should be National Opt Out Day! This is going to take all of us opting out, all the time. I can see a significant portion of the traveling public following our lead, and opting out as well. Can you imagine the chaos it would create?
The TSA will then be faced with three options: (1) discontinue use of the scanners, (2) find the funding for CREWPASS, or (3) make the scanner mandatory. If they choose the third option, ALPA had better have a strong response ready, even to the point of an SOS.

First of all, the traveling public wants to get to their destination for the Thanksgiving holidays and they are going to take the path of least resistance in getting through security. If the line to get through security is the shortest going through the body scanners, guess what ? They're going to be scanned. Hell, despite what's been bantered around, most people don't realize what's happening anyway. They just want to get on that damn plane and go see Grandma !
Secondly, as for the TSA, if you think Washington is simply going to pull the plug (figuratively) on the scanners, you're delusional. Not with the commitment that's been made and the financial resources already spent.
Thirdly, the TSA has nothing to do with funding for TWIC/CrewPass. It has to be mandated by Congress and appropriated by the FAA. We've been down this road in 1993 when, with ALPA's lead, what was at the time "Crew Pass" was on FAA Administrator Marion Blakey's desk for signature and Congress got wind of it. With the potential to have all transportation workers issued dual biometric ID cards at the government's expense, it became a political football and died a natural death. Believe me, we were figuratively on the one yard line and couldn't score.
Lastly, as for ALPA and a national SOS...sounds good but with no backbone, it will never happen. Been there, done that.
Do I personally like the body scanners ? NO. The "leaders" of the FAA/TSA intel (now that's an oxymoron if ever there was one) in this country have long been mis-directed in their approach to aviation security and what we have in place now is simply "eye wash" for the flying public.Until someone steps up and puts a "real" security system in place, we're going to have to live with this half-assed approach.
Be safe y'all and have a Happy Thanksgiving !

BTW, I talked with someone earlier today who contacted one of our senators about this issue. Their response was that their hands are tied because 'profiling' is not allowed.
