First civilian pilot jobsq to be lost to RPVS
My Way News - FAA under pressure to open US skies to drones
The obvious risks have not deterred the civilian demand for pilotless planes. Tornado researchers want to send them into storms to gather data. Energy companies want to use them to monitor pipelines. State police hope to send them up to capture images of speeding cars' license plates. Local police envision using them to track fleeing suspects.
It's only a matter of time before this happens. If I were a cargo guy I would be worried. They will be the first major jobs to go. We may not see it but our kids will.

Your kids might be at risk for this, but worst case in the forseeable future is probably single-pilot cargo cockpits.

Pilot Jobs
In any case if the FAA approves more drones for things like police observation it means fewer pilot jobs. The skies will open for ground based aviation sooner than most would like to think.

I guess not enough for the chicken littles out there. Is it remotely (Hee Hee) possible that there could be a need for more pilots as a result of this. Sounds like the world is rediscovering new uses for aircraft. Maybe there will more aircraft flying soon.
Regardless I just shifted all my holdings into buggywhips as I am sure the oil spill will cause the resurgence of horsedrawn carriages.
If you want security get a government job.

Great, maybe you've found your calling in aviation. Then you can troll the UAV boards.

Just curious, but why is the belief that Cargo planes will start flying UAV's before Civilian?
I'm sure it has to do with people being uncomfortable in a pilot-less aircraft, just want to make sure I'm not missing something else.
At the end of the day, the technology maybe developed one day to remove the pilot from the cockpit, but the price tag associated to keep the operation running safely up to FAR standards would far surpass the cost of compensating and better qualified flight crew.
I'll go out on a limb here and say anyone who believes that commercial airlines and cargo operations will one day be replaced by computers is an idiot.....And that's putting it lightly.
