That is why you don't lower the gear on a water landing.....

Generally, and what probably happened here, is that the pilot forgets to raise the gear after departing a runway on the way to a water landing. Long and short flights.

All who have flown amphibs are pretty paranoid about this happening to them. Mirrors out on the wings, electronic warning systems in addition to gear position lights, and some companies policy's regarding calls to company after departure and return to a runway- and post takeoff and pre landing checks.

Still happens. Hope it never happens to me or my friends. Gear malfunctions can be kind of tricky sometimes too depending on logistics and location.

I'm hoping they were all okay- don't read or speak French, not even sure if this was in France or Canada. Guessing from the fairly gentle rollover that they got out okay. Surprised how well the Otter in this case floats in the video too.

This would be a much worse deal if it had happened in a remote location. Hypothermia, drowning, just being in the water generally sucks.

Another reason for always filing a flight plan and carrying survival gear.

Be safe.

I'm sure they were alright, just not very happy.

Be safe.
Yep, the ol' girl, even in such an undignified position, still took good care of her occupants.
