Actually, in the wreckage scene you could see the camp that the survivors built and lived in, so the credits were NOT meant to imply that everyone died in the crash.

What that meant to me was quite the opposite -- to show that the events of the last 6 seasons actually DID occur, and that while everyone was now gone, the remnants of that crash and their brief life there remained as testament to that.

I thought I saw footprints around the wreckage, but didn't see the camp...without fancy technology like DVR or HDTV I'm left to my waning memory

Yes you did see footprints around the wreckage leading into the jungle.

Liked the ending... probably NOT what I would have written but I had felt for sometime they were heading in this sort of direction. Not sure they really answered ALL the questions as they had promised but I can live with it.
