Default Static Display/Fly-in March 27th

For all of you in the neighborhood, we're having the first annual "Wings over Flagler" - warbird fly-in/static display. The airport is Flagler County (KXFL) - the runways are only 5000' so unfortunately we can't get the big stuff... but there will a lot of the round engine variety there including (but not limited to) C-47, TBM, Yak 50 (and 52), CJ-6, L-39, UH-1 Huey, MH-60 and like 30 other vintage military aircraft from various countries. They are offering rides in the C-47 and UH-1, as well as some stick time in a PT-17.

The event is this Saturday (the 27th), our airport is located about 25nm North of DAB.

PM me if you think you might make it.

Those L-39s must do alright on those shorter runways huh?
Any idea what they consider minimum length?
I'm sure you'll come up with some great pictures to share ryan1234.

The T/O roll is a little under 2000' - the challenge in a shortfield take-off is the steering. The front nosewheel is free-castoring, so you need to use the brake (handle on the stick) and rudder pressure to turn - every turn involved brakes. You can really only "turn" the nose wheel with forward motion... it just eats up runway if you don't line it up perfect. Even though it isn't that short... the preference for "short-field" landings are the boards out and the power up.

We were trying to get a T-38 here, but UALT38PHYLER said the AF requires at least 20,000', full emergency vehicles and crew, a huffer, 10 bottles of Jeremiah Weed, free escort service, 3 bars with karaoke night at each of them, and a five star hotel.

You know I'll be there, if only for the DAK and Avenger.

Did you request any USN training aircraft? I was in KSUA for their show and I enjoyed the small town show. Next year pursue getting your show CHINFO approved (if not already) and actively call Training Wings 4, 5 and 6 for T-34s, TH-57s, T-6s, T-44s and TC-12s. They can all do 5000'. Hit me up when it rolls around next year and I'll help advertise it here in CCTX.

I don't know how to initiate the CHINFO thing but the below link should get you started.

Thanks for the heads up, we'll do that next year for sure. Actually an AW poster (Army guy) flew in a new -60 today.
