I work for DAL, & I laughed my butt off.
The massive cancellations are not just DAL. CAL, UAL, SWA, & AA have all been doing the same thing. It's a result of the new passenger bill of rights. $27,000 per passenger for a flight on the tarmac more then 3.5 hours adds up fast. Maybe now passengers will realize that it's not the airlines delaying themselves, but the USA's antique air traffic control system.
Newsflash! Those that kicked & stomped their feet & supported this new pax bill of rights, this is what you created. I hope you're happy.

Im all in favor of this pax bill of rights. I have had at least 40 to 50 hours cancel over the last 3 snowstorms in the northeast. Nothing better than looking at your trip sheet at the end of a 4 day and seeing 10 hours of block with 29:30 pay...

Yeah, you gotta love that. Talk about little work for your pay.

dont blame ATC for this its the airlines that forced us to stuff 20 pounds of crap in the same 5 pound bags for the last 25 years. do you pilots realize how many rules we have to bend every day to work normal traffic? if we followed all the rules you would see backs up like youve never seen before.i dont care how advanced the system is WX is still the trump card ,thunder storms and heavy snow are gonna create delays period.problem is you guys think that we can put 100 ops an hour down all the time despite the WX.

Whoa, whoa, whoa!!! I wasn't blaming Air Traffic Controllers. I was blaming the ATC System. I operated out of EWR for a short 38 months, and the controllers were awesome. Two runways to work with in WX, one for departures and one for arrivals.
I know TS are going to jack things up, especially enroute ones that cause guys to deviate all over the US. But depending on the airport, heavy snow doesn't always jack things up. DTW runs very well in snow, with minimal delays and rare ground stops.
Like I said, I think our controllers do a great job day in and day out. As a pilot I have to worry about just one flight, mine. You guys have to manage waaaaaaay more, and do a great job. Your profile says your retired. Thanks for your many years of keeping our skies safe, and I hope you're enjoying retirement.
Cheers

Hey the airlines are playing this one correctly. Irk the passenger in to forcing the government to rescind that POS ruling. It is a lot cheaper to blanket cancel that to pay that. Heck on a good night you may get 3.5 hrs in a takeoff line!
