Default Switzerland

Anyone here been to Switzerland? What did you think and where did you go?

I will be visiting Berne, Lausanne, and Lauterbrunnen in mid-April, and hopefully most of the snow from the lower lands will be gone by then. Going to be staying in hostels, which actually look pretty nice.

Please share your thoughts or opinions; I'm curious to hear about it from people who have been there.

I have family in a village 22 km west of Zurich. Things have changed a lot there in the last ten years...especially in regards to immigration. Ten years ago the dollar rocked the house. Nowadays, almost on par with the local Swiss currency. Take the time to check out some of the smaller villages and the food, coffee, wine, cheese they all have to offer. Having a Eurorail pass works out great too. You do know that Switzerland is probably one of the most expensive areas to vacation in right now?

Unfortunately, the cost of visiting Switzerland only become more apparent after I became financially committed (I decided to buy non-refundable revenue tickets instead of try and non-rev). But I'll just make the best of it.

Were the trains pretty easy to use?

Lauterbrunnen is pretty small....I think only about a 1000 people live there. LOTS of great hiking, which is what I'm most looking forward to.

Thumbs up Hikers' paradise

A big "thumbs up" for Lauterbrunnen. Take the cog railway up one side of the valley (Wengen, Grindlewald, Jungfrau), and the cable car up the other side (Murren, Gimmelwald, Schilthorn). Swisspass gives you a discount on these.
We found this website to be most helpful and accurate, along with the guidebook Rick Steves' Switzerland.

Have a great trip!
