I'm looking forward to his show.... it is nice to have a journalist who is a pilot as well.

Quite a bit of near savaging going on here (i.e.regional killing mainline, mainline selling out) and most of the arguments, on either side, are pretty spot on.

But march on Washington? OK, but before going to the big house at East Capitol ST & NE 1st St. better make angry stop at 1625 Massachusetts Ave first. What a sorry, lame, & charlatan association that is. No wonder it can't act or get results like a real union when it is too afraid to even call itself a union.

ALPA is not a union nor can it be. The Railway Labor Act forbids unions across multiple airlines. The best we can do is have an organization of separate unions That significantly reduces the power to set rates across all airlines and with the regional model, completely undercuts a unions power.

Should be interesting, I love knowing that I will have payed about 40 thousand for my training and can look forward to making 16-20 thousand a year for the first five years or more of my career because of the fare wars.... Don't get into aviation if it is money you desire.

I am aware of the ancient (1926) RLA act, its origins and its severe restrictions of allowing cross company platforms or agreements. Airlines were appended to the act in 1936. I am wondering if there could be constitutional argument against the act. I also wonder if or how ALPA might have (or ever will) address this. After all, laws can be amended or overturned - that's partially what PAC's are for. Evidence of complete failure is by reading and hearing the general level of acrimony and division that has reached a fever pitch - most of it from people doing the same job, with the same certificates, under the same regulations and, by and large, members of the same union, err...association.

Unlikely. 70 plus years have not yielded a challenge. And even if there were a challenge, given the fact $99 cross country fares exist, the masses would go nuts if the price went to $110.

Don't you know, all those pilots are paid six figures and all they do is push the auto pilot button?

Non sched freight is a great way to build time and experience or put your life and career in jeopardy if you end up working for the wrong outfit. I cherished my time in the DC-3,flying the freightdog life, though my beloved Dougs are gone (at least from everywhere north of Miami, and south of Anchorage) Lears,Falcons, and the eternal CV580 remain. My peers ended up at NW/Delta,FEdEx,SWA you name it,without enduring the soul wounding trials of the regionals, best of luck to you,and freight is just starting to pick up again,it is my favorite leading indicator usually presaging a rebounding economy by about 6 months. out.
