Default Anybody use Rogaine?

I'm worried about going bald. I'm almost 28. I can see signs. All my uncles from my mom's side are bald also. I'm thinking about using Rogain? Anybody have any experience with it?

I don't have an answer to your question, but I can tell you that being bald isn't so bad. I made a deal with my son when he was 7 going thru cancer treatment that if he lost his hair I'd shave my head. Shortly after the radiation treatments started, his hair started to fall out. I shave my head like I promised and it's actually kind of nice not having to worry about combing my hair, shampoo or conditioner. I don't wake with bed head or get hat head. I shave my head once or twice a week with an electric razor so I save money on hair cuts too. That was more than 5 years ago and my son's hair has long since grown back but I still like my shaved head.

That's so cool that you shaved your head for your son. I would jump at the chance to do so for someone close to me to show support. I'm glad your son has had the last five years to grow his hair back too.

I'm freaking out about this whole balding thing, too. I'm definitely seeing signs at 24, not good. The only knock on Rogaine is that I heard you lose more hair before seeing any results, and it is kind of a no win situation because you continue to buy the product without any guarantees.

I'm more interested in Propecia, (sp?) the pill that can supposedly regrow your hair.

I don't want to go bald!!!!! Anyone have info?

I take the generic version of Propecia which is Finisteride (Cheaper$) and use the Kirkland Minoxidil(generic version of Rogaine). My goal is to keep what I have. I had a consultation with a hair transplant surgeon about filling in the areas that are receding. I was using only Minoxidil at the time and the Doctor was surprised I wasn't using Propecia, as that is much more effective than Rogaine. In fact the Doctor would be hesitant to do any transplant unless I had been taking Propecia for 6 months prior because it might reduce the need for transplant on top. I don't know if I've regrown any hair but it's supposed to reduce the DHT levels in the body which is the cause behind hair loss.

Take a look at the following message boards-lots of info

I am 24 and I discovered I was balding a few months after my 23rd bday. It almost made me sick because I had an afro in high school and really liked my hair. I thought of using rogaine etc. but then I thought I would be a prisoner for it and wasting money on a losing battle. Sure it sucks to go bald at 24 but i am perfectly healthy, have a 1st class medical and am physically very active. I am sporting the buzz cut now and i do it myself about once a week. I hope you get used to it and start embracing it. Some lose it some don't what's the big deal?
