The Funemployment Thread
I'm now totally settled into this whole unemployment (funemployment?) thing. I try to keep a semi-regular schedule so that I don't wind up curled up in a corner in the fetal position talking to myself. Just curious as to what you other furloughed guys do to keep yourselves occupied?
My usual day:
- Wake up around 9 or 10
- Apply/look for jobs for 1 hour minimum
- Kill people for an hour or two (MW2 on PS3)
- Work on music production for a few hours (Logic Studio + guitar/drums/keyboard)
- Browse the interwebs
- Occasionally stumble out into the blinding sunlight to get some Vitamin D sustenance
- Exercise for at least 15 minutes 3x/week
- Sleep around 1am
All of this interspersed with meals and snacks at sometimes random times.

As a CFI/ part-time charter. I become part time charter only when the weather drops below 20 degrees. When you got students that have enough money to fly through the recession. They also have enough money to say "screw this" when it's time to preflight in the cold. Therefore I am trolling APC at 11:30, on my strict schedule as mentioned above.

Okdecs, my schedule is very similar to yours except I play poker instead of ps3 and don't know how to play any instruments anymore... maybe I should teach myself guitar.
Flyby- Unemployment pays all my bills and almost leaves enough to eat.
Bryris-I agree with trying to figure out what kind of schooling I'm willing to do this time. I thought I'd figured it out, but apparently that program isn't eligible for the funding I wanted anymore... so back to the drawing board.

Funemployment?
Things to do in Juneau when an unemployed aviator.
1. Read cheap paperbacks from used bookstore. (Check out C.J. Box if you need some good outdoorsy murder mystery stuff.)
2. Read internet news and favorited aviation sites.
3. Read back of ravioli cans and ramen packages.
4. Shave, ...on second thought, no shaving today. Maybe tomorrow.
5. Try to get through on phone to check on screwed up unemployment
benefits. No dice. The unemployment office is busy this time of year in AK.
6. Go green with coffee grounds, use two to four times until coffee looks more like tea.
7. Stare out window at grey sky.
8. Take a nap.
9. Read aviation websites.
10. Go to free gym at national guard armory.
That's about it.

Wow, it's crazy how similar everyone's schedule becomes. Mine was really similar to OKDECS, except I go for the Xbox360 and I only know guitar. During the Summer I usually tried to fit in a few hours at the neighborhood pool with a cheap 6-pack and library book. I've picked up a temp job and it's given me a whole new appreciation for flying. 8-5 in a cubicle is nothing compared to flying, and very hard to take seriously.
Ah well, just making good stories to tell after "Cruise Check complete" someday.
