Any car that has good tires, good brakes, runs well, gets decent mileage, and is paid for.

My only luxury is air conditioning, but in Houston, it is more of a requirement.

I drive a beat-up 1997 Toyota RAV4 with 307,000 miles. I bought it nearly new, and only paid it off about 3 years ago. Enough of that.

Last month, I bought a 1987 BMW 325is for a couple hundred dollars. I've already spent almost as much as the initial cost in parts, but it's driveable now and it keeps a smile on my face.. and it was paid off the first time I drove it home.

Lesson learned. As long as it's new to me, I don't care how old it is -- I'll never buy another car that comes with a payment book!

I believe that the answer is "no", pilots do not have a preference. Even though lots of pilots drive beaters, pilots are still almost as diverse as many demographics.

Two paid off Toyotas in the garage.

The only depreciating asset I still invest in is my wife...and only because she continues to return the favor.

A Honda in the garage, and a BMW in the garbage.

Traded my 00' ZR2 Blazer for an 07' Dodge Quad Cab 1500 5.7hemi. I'm a farm guy though, fits me better.

I'm going to have to say there is only some truth to this. A 'pin drop at 130' is not true, however, for most cars you'll be taking up to those speeds. Yes, contact patches get smaller, but this is dependent on the amount of lift and downforce your car makes.

I'm guilty of being a gearhead. While I do not currently have a sportscar (still in college with a beater), I'll probably pick up a cheap 4th Gen LS1 F-Body, gut it, and turn it into a street/strip beater to have some fun wrenching on.

I frequent LS1Tech.com, PlanetLSX.com, and Fullthrottlev6.com
