Default Housekeeping Etequitte

Why is the standard time to wait between knocking and opening the door a maximum of .0003 nanoseconds?

I tried to get out of bed to put some pants on, thinking it was possibly my captain (housekeeping usually knows our checkout times and doesn't bother us) and before my feet hit the floor, she burst in to see my in my undies looking at her like "***?"

I guess that's what I get for forgetting to lock the door or put the DND sign on, but still, why bother even knocking if you're not going to wait for a response? Just barging in would be equally effective.

What's really embarrassing is when it looks like you have a petting zoo in the room.

In the US a DND sign is like a magnet for housekeeping to knock. Even if you get one of those fancy day sleeper room signs, it actually makes it worse.
