Default Shoes!

I think I saw a thread like this a long time ago, but I'm unable to locate it via the search function, so forgive me if it is redundant. I am looking for new shoes to wear to work. Preferably a pair I wouldn't have to remove during security (I commute). My present pair, black Ariat Ropers have served me well for a couple of years but they are toast. I would go with the Ropers again, but I am a distance runner and have chronic Achilles/heel problems, so I am looking for a "normal" shoe that could be at least as durable as my Ropers were.

In the past, I have worn dress shoes to work and completely destroyed them in under 6 months. I used to wear Doc Martens, which worked fine and were comfortable, but have since decided that they were not appropriate for this job. What do you guys wear/love?

Ecco and Johnston Murphy but you will be spending close to $200 for a pair.

Check out Deer Stags.
They aren't to expensive, about $40 a pair. They are fairly comfortable and airport friendly.

I have Ecco now and love them, but you pay for them. Before that I had a great pair of Bostonians. They lasted almost five years doing walkarounds in rain, sleet, snow, and Glycol. Both are security friendly. The deer stags are alright, but disposable from my experience.

Bates. Very comfortable, go through security without taking shoes off, shine nicely, and look great. They even come in super high gloss for all the ex-Marines out there.

One more vote for Eccos. Very comfortable, durable, lightweight, and metal-free. Sure, you pay for them, but they'll last a good long time.

I wear the Johnson and Murphy Optima. You can get them for about 140 bucks on Zappos.com.
They are leather soled.

Love them and will never wear anything else. Each pair last about two to two and a half years, then I get the resoled for about 40 bucks. I have been wearing the same pair for about six years. IMHO well worth the money.

I just bought my second pair of Dockers Prostyles. First pair lasted 2 years. Comfortable, lightweight and airport friendly. $60,-
