The westbound lanes on I-90's floating bridge across Lake Washington reopened just in time to close again this week as the entire bridge is shut down for the annual Blue Angels show.
The bridge will be closed from 1:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday while the Blue Angels practice for the Seafair event. The express lanes will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The bridge will be closed again from 12:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Friday, and the express lanes will shut down from 10:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, the bridge will be closed from 12:45 p.m. to 2:40 p.m. for the Blue Angels' performance. The express lanes will be closed from 10:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m, according to WSDOT.
The bridge is closed to comply with Federal Aviation Administration rules to reduce distractions to both drivers and pilots. There will be no access for pedestrians and cyclists up to 30 minutes prior to posted closure times, according to WSDOT.
WSDOT recommends drivers intent on crossing via I-90 should plan on crossing an hour in advance of the closures. WSDOT has more on express lanes and ramp closures:
Closed at times listed above: Northbound I-5 to eastbound I-90 ramp, southbound I-5 to eastbound I-90 ramp, southbound and northbound Rainier Avenue ramps and Island Crest Way to westbound I-90.
Closed up to 30 minutes before show or practice: Island Crest Way to westbound I-90, eastbound I-90 to West Mercer Way, East Mercer Way to westbound I-90 and West Mercer Way to westbound I-90, and 76th Avenue to westbound I-90.
The exits from westbound I-90 to Island Crest Way and East Mercer Way on Mercer Island will remain open, although drivers should expect heavy congestion.
