Default Ozark Airlines...Remembered

SO, I went to an airline enthusiasts memorabilia show last week and stumbled on some old memorabilia from Ozark airlines. Being a kid in the 70's and remembering that my first flight on a commercial carrier was Ozark, out of Springfield, Mo, I thought it was kind of cool. I had a lot of memories of flying on them due to living in Mo. I probably flew on them 20 times as a kid. A lot of my early memories of pilots and planes were centered around Ozark Airlines and the DC-9 shorty. I do not know the history of what happened to them, (I heard they were purchased by TWA), or where they went. I would love to hear from some guys that have info on the history of this airline. It would be great to talk to someone who had flown for them at one point. Any pilots that flew for them I would love it if you would PM me. thanks

We used to run into the Ozark crews in CMI. The hotel was the Castle Lodge and it was a German themed place. In the basement was a hoffbrau with lots of different beers. There was a big stuffed bear on the stairs going down to the beer cellar. The bear was mounted in typical fashion.. on back legs, teeth bared and claws extended. The Ozark crews seem to always put a few beer cans on the beer claws. Fun bunch of people.

Going into to STL on the parallel runways you could almost always count on being able to look into an Ozark DC-9 cockpit.. you were that close.

Ozark merged with TWA in a relatively bitter merger and TWA was then scooped up by American. Sad to see them go.

Jumers Castle Lodge.

Being from CMI I remember Ozark well. I also remember jets before deregulation and Shorts and metros after. Of course I was way to young to know what deregulation was, just all the jets went away.

Yes, I remember as a kid when in Springfield or St. Louis, it seemed like Ozark and TWA were the only two airlines...lol. Seemed back then that Ozark would never go away.....sad to know that by the time I got into aviation they were but a distant memory...

I remember when they supplied flight deck crews for the "Big Bunny". The flight attenndents were incredable, to say the least. What a plum assignment that must have been!

Actually it was dereg that took my former employer into DAY and the rust belt as well as places like CMI. I was flying new 737-200s into CMI and it was out of CMI that I set a personal record.

We went to the airport at about 0'dark thirty for the morning launch. It was about -30 with the windchill. We went to DAY and then to MIA or FLL or PBI.. some south Florida field where the temp was in the 80s. We then turned around and went back DAY and some other cold dark airfield in the north. But the people were nice. Our company was making money. We could actually believe what our company execs told us.. it was a different time.

Was this Piedmont? I remember riding them out of CMI. My Dad left the car running with the trunk open in the dropoff area. We were halfway to Dayton when he remembered. Told the stewardess, who told the pilot. They got in touch with the station, and they went outside and parked it and kept the keys for our return. Sometimes its nice flying of the small places.
