Default Who says morals aren't for sale!

All it takes is money......

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - California tax officials say a state proposal to tax and regulate marijuana like alcohol would generate nearly $1.4 billion in revenue.

A State Board of Equalization report released Wednesday estimates marijuana retail sales would bring $990 million from a $50-per-ounce fee and $392 million in sales taxes.

The bill introduced by San Francisco Democratic Assemblyman Tom Ammiano in February would allow adults to legally possess, grow and sell marijuana.

Ammiano has promoted the bill as a way to help bridge the state's $26.3 billion budget shortfall.

As the bill is written, the state could not begin collecting taxes under the bill until the federal government legalizes marijuana.

A spokesman says Ammiano plans to amend the bill to remove that provision.

We're already suffering from "high" taxes in California.

They could use their state tax refund IOUs for rolling paper. Everybody wins.
They need a lot more than 1.4 billion though.

The state subsidized bong and pipe program would quickly wipe out the tax benefits.

Back 20 years it was too expensive to live there, I can not imagine now. What do you get for your tax dollar in that state? It has some nice parts, but by no means are the taxes in line with the benefits.

good luck to those who live or work out there

As much as I support legislation to tax Marijuana in my own state, (legislation that should have gone through a long time ago, and could have dug us out of this ridiculous debt), I seriously doubt it will succeed. Until federal law regarding the possession of marijuana is reformed, I don't see the issue being resolved any time soon.

P.S.- This is just one of many bills which have been denied within the state of California, in this decade alone.
