Slightly related...
...and by no means a knock on the flight crews at UA who safely pilot their aircraft every day...but, I will concur with the observation of shoddy attitudes and performance by UA customer service personnel.
I'll spare the details, but I just got back from Japan via UA round-trip, and in both SFO and NRT, I've never seen passengers (including myself and traveling partners) treated so **** poor. They couldn't (more like wouldn't) help anyone. Just kept on passing the buck, and on two occasions flat out refused to do their given jobs. Not to mention witnessing several instances of a handful agents flat out not even *knowing* how to do their jobs (having done their job, I know what is involved) in regards to ticketing issues. Everywhere I was in Japan, I was amazed at how polite, respectful, and helpful the Japanese people are....until I got to the ones who work for UA.
The in-flight crews were just fine. FA's were pleasant and helpful (hopefully not a fluke). But, sorry United...your ground agents are terrible if this is any indicator of the rest of the company.
Sorry for this fella and his guitar, being a musician as well, I can relate, but I hope that UA fully compensates him to his needs and that he still produces all of his songs for the world to see.
