Default Flight Time Limitations, 30 in 7

Okay folks, it's been a while since I had to even think about it, but have a friend that just called with a question.

I know that per the regs, a pilot can extend daily flight hours beyond 8 hrs (legal to start, legal to finish), but does that same rule apply to the 30 hours in 7 day limit for part 121 flying?

A prompt reply is appreciated! Also if possible, can you quote the applicable reg??? Thanks!

30 in 7 is actual block time, not scheduled

121.471 Flight time limitations and rest requirements: All flight crewmembers.
(a) No certificate holder conducting domestic operations may schedule any flight crewmember and no flight crewmember may accept an assignment for flight time in scheduled air transportation or in other commercial flying if that crewmember's total flight time in all commercial flying will exceed

(1) 1,000 hours in any calendar year;

(2) 100 hours in any calendar month;

(3) 30 hours in any 7 consecutive days;

(4) 8 hours between required rest periods.

Flyerjosh:

The limitation is hard with respect to scheduled time. You are able to complete your trip even though it exceeds the 30/7 domestic rule or the 32/7 international rule if at the beginning of your last scheduled day of flying you are projected to not exceed this limitation. If however, after flying your first leg of the last day you get delayed and now project going over the limitation by the end of the day, you can legally continue the trip to the end of the day. If your delay happens the day prior to your last day and you know your scheduled flying the next day will exceed the 30/7 or 32/7 rule you may not legally complete the trip. This limitation has been extensively challenged and without getting into lots of detail, the FAA has bought off on the above explanation.

CalCapt,

Thanks, that's what I thought but couldn't remember if the legal to start (the day) legal to finish (the day) rule applied also to 30/7. I'll pass the word along.

Avbug,

The reg states that no crewmember can be SCHEDULED more than 30/7. The issue is if you start your day with an schedule that takes you to 29:58, and then overblock by 5 minutes, can you finish the rest of the day. (At least that's how I interpret the reg.)
