What American car should I buy.
Hey all.
Moving to CA in a couple of months and want to buy a US built car. Needs to be a 4 door midsize sedan of ok quality with a 6 cyl engine. In the 25k price range.
I have been looking at things like Mercury Sable or Milan or Pontiac grand prix etc but I know nothing about the quality of these cars.
Are they ok. Would you buy one as a family car.
Any info would be appreciated.

This week I rented (Enterprise) and drove 1200 miles in 4 days in a Chevy Impala. I don't know the specific model. The car ran great, has some nice options, and was very comfortable. It looks good as well.
When I returned the car to the local (non-airport) location the manager asked me what I thought. I told him I was, "impressed, I liked it." His response, "everybody does, Chevy has a winner here, I wish I had more to rent".
FWIW

Well you could get a Mazda 6 built in Michigan, a Honda Accord built in Maryland, or a Toyota Camry built in Kentucky.

I have been very impressed with the Fusion/Milan. I'm going to end up with one of those or a Focus (can't decide if I want the extra car payment). I think Ford currently has a leg up on Chryco and GM in terms of product quality.

But I'd feel a lot better about the idea of "free trade" if I could believe that half the vehicles on the streets of Tokyo wore Ford, Chevy, and Dodge badges and were built in the Land of the Rising Sun. I guess Mazda is part Ford, but not sure anymore.
I'm aware it ain't always easy to buy American, but I believe it's a good idea to do so when able.
