Indeed, I noted it was a poorer choice - but I was trying to use most of the same words the PP did. Thanks for the attention, though ...

or

( a bit more cumbersome)

Send the teacher a copy of the Urban Dictionary. The kid aced the quiz and should get credit!

However, penmanship is D+ .

I'm always amused when people use the "I'm not in English class" argument to excuse the poor spelling and grammar that we see.

What if you gave somebody a $20 bill to pay for a $5 item, and they gave you $13 change? Would you say, "Oh well, I'm not in math class, so it doesn't matter"?

Just because you're not in English class doesn't mean you shouldn't take the time to ensure that your writing doesn't contain errors. We didn't sit through years of English and math class just for the sake of being there. We had to do it because it was necessary for us to function in society.

Mind you, I'm not talking bout the internet jargon here (ur, brb, lol, 2gether etc.), but please, make some effort to spell check before you post. Quit using Internet Explorer. Firefox is much better, and it includes an automatic spell checking tool.

Well, that isn't entirely accurate, because nobody is technically indebted to you on these forums (i.e., they don't really owe you anything). It's not like they must repay you for your well-thought out, grammatically immaculate post by following suit. As nice as it would be if they did, it doesn't always happen, and it isn't worth worrying about IMHO

I don't feel that I'm owed anything, but I still stand by my statement that it's exactly the same situation. You sit in English class so you can USE the skill, not just get a passing grade. The same is true for math. You use the basic math principles every day (mostly for money) so you don't get ripped off. Why do some people feel that English is any different?

IMO, the poeple who hide behind "I'm not in English class" don't do better because they don't know better. The only way to get over the problem is to practice doing the right thing so that it becomes natural- that way you needn't think about your vs you're.

If we approached math the same way we approach english, we'd be broke pretty soon, because those who take time to do proper math would always be giving us a 6 for a 9.
