Default 152 Stopped Engine Landing

LiveLeak.com - Stopped engine, crosswind landing!

It was done intentionally.

I have to say good job to the instructor for making the landing, bad job for posting the video online.

Still worth a looksy anyhow

I find it odd that he feels the need to do this. We all know you can acomplish the same thing by pulling the power to idle. Why the need to actually pull the mixture?

Was he trying to prove his stuff in the cockpit? Its a 150. If you want to impress someone do the same thing in an aircraft with a glide ratio of a rock or in an environment like this: YouTube - Highlander dead stick take off

I can do the same thing but I will live a lot longer because I will leave myself an out by keeping the engine running.

Could not see the video because I don't happen to feel like installing Flash software to see one video, but this has to be about poor judgment. Voluntary engine outs are not safe in single engine airplanes. What if a service truck you didn't happen to notice over there on the taxiway suddenly decides this is the day to be a dumbkoff and he drives onto your active runway? Seen it happen several times. What if a deer decides to commit suicide on your runway? Seen it happen several times. It is not a prudent idea to give up your options for the sake of teaching a simple skill that can be taught far more safely.

NJ, I see that you are still getting low marks in Grammar, Composition, World Literature, Shakespearean Tragedy, Technical Writing and Survey of Literature, but I can hand it to you that you are very capable in the matter of writing efficient compositions for us here at APC.

That was a slip to landing to help reduce altitude.
The x-wind was not severe.

Oh really? And lying that you are:

1) an airline pilot (not!)

2) a CFI (not!)

3) over 21 (not!)

4) etc....

doesn't matter?

I will give you that I don't know all of these for sure, and that I'm making assumptions, but since you say it doesn't matter (what do you think now), I am assuming based on your educated posts that you are a high school student, potentially a freshman or sophomore.

I like how the guy had a group of kids waiting for his triumphant return as he taxied back to the hangar. It seems to me that he must have advertised his stunt before hand in order to draw a crowd of people to watch. Then he video taped it so that we all could enjoy it as well.
