Here's a naive question about the WiFi apps - why?

I have the data plan and haven't had any problem connecting to the web when outside of a WiFi footprint. I'm still really new to the iPhone, but haven't figured out why I need the WiFi app.

Truphone is an app that uses a wi-fi connection for VOIP calls, like Skype.

Here are a couple of apps that I've used recently:

ACTPrinter which lets you print your boarding passes (and other documents) to your iPhone. I have to confess, the only time I tried it, I got the pass to print as advertised but the Homeland Security people weren't thrilled about it...they said if I wanted to use that I would have to go to the really long line. Like a punishment. But I had enough time and wanted to see if it would work and they did let me through. At the gate, the scanner didn't read it. Take a backup! Here's a couple of links about boarding passes on PDA's.

TSA: Paperless Boarding Pass Pilot
TSA to expand paperless boarding pass program - USATODAY.com

Here's a link to the app:
Houdah Software - iPhone

Also, a friend sent me some study cards that he made at this website for his iPhone: WorkLifeStudy.com - Home
I've tried a few but haven't had as much success as he did. They're pretty cool and are a great way to brush up on limitations, etc. There are a bunch of cards in the library at this site, from a bunch from different airlines.

I'm trying to figure out how to geo-link photos, that's where I came across the printing app. If anyone has had any luck doing that, what software did you use.

You can do this for free. Very easy:

iPhone Ringtones: Create FREE iPhone ringtones using iTunes 8

The best app I've found is Cydia. Jailbreak that phone and there are thousands of free apps you can get.

WinterBoard - Customize the look of your phone. Icons, backgrounds, sliders, etc.
CallMe - Create touch dial icons with photos for free
Five Icon Dock - Self explanatory
UT Snow Report
CO Snow Report
HP Calc - 11C, 12C, 15C, 16C
iCallBR - Lets you delete individual calls from your Recent Call list
iReBoot - Quick way to restart your phone if its acting strange

For App Store Apps:

ScoreMobile
ShotTimer
iGasUp
SoLuna
Easy Wi-Fi

MX,Yeah, iTunes8 wasn't out at the time.....I have some jailbreak questions.........
Did you jailbreak your phone just so you could get those other apps or so you could use another provider? If I jailbreak, can I still use AT&T? And can a techno bottomfeeder like me do the jailbreak? How does it affect one's warranty with Apple? Can you restore to it's original if you want? Thanks for any and all info.

Actually, it does turn your phone into a skype phone now. I just got an email from truphone stating that as of today:

Truphone launches Skype features

You heard the news, and now it is here!

Launching Today

We are excited to announce that from today, Truphone for the iPhone and the iPod touch can now let you stay in touch with all your Skype friends.

You can now:

Instant Message (IM) your Skype contacts
Make calls to Skype users on your contact list*
Receive calls from other Skype users

How do I get started?

It’s easy. You don't need to update or download anything.
Go to the IM screen in the iPhone application (the IM/More screen in the iPod touch application)

Select Skype (from the Setup screen)

Sign in using your Skype account details

When you visit your ‘Friends List’ you will now see all of your Skype contacts and you will be ready to start.

What will it cost me?

If you are in Wi-Fi then all calls and instant messages will be completely FREE.

And for the iPhone application, even if you are not in Wi-Fi you can still make Skype calls and send Skype instant messages using Truphone Anywhere. We don’t charge anything for you to do this, but it will use your data package to connect the call or send the instant message.

We offer Skype on Truphone as a free service, and should this change in the future, we will let you know straight away.

What if I don’t have Truphone anymore?

Don't worry. You can download it again for free. Truphone for the iPhone from here, or Truphone for the iPod touch from here.

This new release is one of the most exciting of Truphone’s history, and one that we hope you find great fun to use. If you have any questions or feedback, our friendly Support Team are ready and waiting.

Happy chatting,

The Truphone Team

Anybody wanna recommend a voice recorder/note taker kinda app. Something that would function like a digital tape recorder for use in staff meetings.

Is there a "verizon" Iphone app? Until then, I'm not buying one.

I can't wait for the nex-gen Iphone for the Verizon LTE network.
