I had not seen this before. Maybe it is new for you too.

It's interesting to think about how much money and manpower was put in to building these things only to have them waste away.

Cool. The domestic stuff is covered here, if you haven't already been to the site.

Kansas has several interesting naval airfields. I have been to a few of them- they offer a glimpse into a past where the world is in turmoil and war rages out of control.

Thanks for this excellent link. It had the now-deceased airport I soloed out of (W22 Woodbridge, VA). Also has some pics of the NIKE missile bases that used to encircle D.C. back in the 50's to protect the Capitol area. One of those sites was near where I grew up in the early 80's and it was abandoned. We'd jump the fence and go exploring on it (and drink beer of course).
