It’s easy to grow next to nothing at 9% with over a billion people (most living in poverty). It’s hard to grow the most prosperous nation on earth at 9%. We already have almost full employment of all skilled educated workers. (Though there is still a butload of unskilled illegals out there, hence our lower numbers.)

But back to your point, since you said that China had almost a 1000 year head start over the Northern Europeans (whose implied way of life you were insulting) then why aren’t they way ahead of the Northern Europeans and their descendents.

As to the Egyptians maintaining Peace, how about that peace they maintained when they drove their tanks through the UN occupied DMZ to invade Israel? I guess after their army was defeated in seven days by the Israelis they decided to “Give piece a chance”. (I think the UN is still working on their “strongly worded letter of condemnation” for that act.)
