I always try not too, but a buddy picked me up from DFW from jumpseating in. He had his girl with him and they planned to go straight to dinner after picking me up, so I ended up eating Jakes hamburgers in uptown Dallas, feeling like a complete tool...at least I took off the tie and the badge.

Little off-topic, but If you're talking about Jake's Joint Burgers and Booze in Plano, I spent A LOT of time there when I was based there for my aerial survey gig. Very cute waitresses (for the most part) and very nice... Plus the cheese fries are amazing.

Okay, I hate to admit this but I was at golds club centerfolds (strip bar) in Sacramento, Ca and I saw this yahoo wearing a full USAF flight suit patches and all except one important thing..... He had no officer markings on his shoulders (enlisted probably loadmaster or boom operator).
Whenever I can't avoid going out in uniform I always take off my bars, wings, tie and hat.

Not sure if it's the same place. This place is on McKinney Ave. There's also one on Beltline in Addison....waitresses are all hot, but then again Dallas is known for the fine looking ladies.

Sounds a lot like the flight dorks at schools like Riddle and ASU etc, that wear their airport SIDA/Mesa Pilot Development badges into their college classes. I guess they feel cool. I want so bad to tell them that no ID is required for private pilot ground school and that they look like d-bags.

And EVERY freshman goes out and buys aviator glasses, despite how awful they look wearing them, and puts an "Id rather be flying" license plate frame on their car.

Related tangential rant over.

I'll stop for gas in my uniform, because it only takes a couple minutes. If I go shopping or out to eat; I remove everything from the uniform- Wings, ID, epaulets, even the tie. I just have black pants and white shirt which gets me looks because now I look like one of those cult guys in black and white that ride around on bikes.

1. In flight school (Larger 141 school - Not ERAU), I saw a guy show up in full cotton flight suit with sectionals and stuff in his flight suit pockets. He looked like a Blue Angel. I almost asked for his autograph. He got a lot of looks. My "flight suit" was shorts and a T-shirt.

2. I worked at an FBO that did a lot of military service. Military planes flew in for fuel and beer and women. Some of the ramp guys (not me) bought flight suits and hung out in the bars to "score". Apparently it worked from the stories I heard. The ramp guys were all pilots and some were ex-military, so they could fake being a military pilot.

Does my wife wearing the shirt and hat count? If so, it would be from hotel rooms across the country.
