Default Any current/former Band Geeks?

Just curious if this board has its group of band geeks. I'm a section leader for the saxophones, and our band is one of the top 10 in the state. Anyone have any stories?

Oh, and just to entertain you of what great marching looks like, here's my favorite Drum Corps, Santa Clara Vanguard, from their 1989 show.

I'm a sax man myself. It's been about 7 years though. Still a geek I guess.

I marched Blue Devils for 3 years. And got two Jim Otts and a world title out of it...so, take THAT to your santa clara vanguard!

Used to play trombone, 6th grade through 12th, stopped when I went to college. Although I sometimes thought it would've been fun to march with the Purdue band, definately a good organization, I just didn't want to commit that much time to it.

Although I played the trumpet for a number of years, I don't know that I would consider myself to have been a "band geek." There is a distinct difference between the two.

Color Guard, Winter Guard, and flute for me. Gave it all up in eleventh grade and haven't looked back. Once you've performed at Mile High Stadium, it's all downhill from there.

for some reason I wanted to join the band in my senior year in H.S. So I took lessons during my Jr. year and played the sax. I also joined the baseball and cross country teams as well. Since I started attending "that" high school during my junior year I didn't know that once you are in the band it is not traditional to be in the baseball or cross country teams. I was soon cut from the baseball team (for my disappointment) but kept running regardless of a couple of conflicts and problems with the band director. Wow! How weird is that? My sax is tucked under my bed and I don't really play anymore. Probably should get into that.
