Bad news for the Global Warming crowd
#3
They're not fights they're debates. I have an active debate with a weather guesser (Navy Aerographer's Mate) at work concerning global warming. I'm pretty ate-up. Despite all of that, it's really good news for all of us that the price of oil is falling. I would like to see the President threaten to release a portion of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Just the threat would send crude even lower.

CPOonfinal made a prediction on 4/15/2008 that the price of oil would be $60 by the end of the year.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA............
Couldn't resist. See for yourself.

I'm of average intelligence so I was wondering if someone could explain how melting ice would flood the earth with global warming...
Water takes up less space than Ice..... and water vapor takes up even less space.....so if the upper parts of the atmosphere became warmer theorhetically vapor would have a harder time turning back into ice/water
Also... I was wondering... if the earth's oceans are getting warmer... how exactly do you get accurate measurements from the whole ocean everywhere at the same time?
Also..... "The Inconvenient Truth" started off showing the damage from Katrina.... I thought hurricanes have been around for a while, and having a house 20 feet below sea-level near a tropical body of water isn't smart... so what does global warming have to do with this?
I guess I'm not part of the truly intellectual

I am not even close to an expert, so take it easy on me if I am wrong.
From my meteorology class in college I gathered, ice reflects the sun whereas water absorbs the sun. So if the ice was all gone the warming of the ocean would speed up considerably. When I say considerable it may only be a few degrees but apparently that will change the worlds weather systems. When it comes to land, near the coast we are only a few feet above sea level so even a small rise would mean some areas would be lost.
When it comes to hurricanes I believe the argument is that the hotter water temperatures would mean more hurricanes. If you look at the weather forecasts in May-June, you will see that hurricanes develop off places like Africa but they fail to reach America because the water temperatures have no reached the level needed to maintain the hurricane. If the water temperature were a few degrees warmer these hurricanes would last and thereby more would hit America.
Again I could be wrong, but that is my understanding.

yeah... I majored in Aerospace Engineering in college... I learned about the ice/cup thing too.... Being a pilot though I wish I knew more about weather in terms of climate change. I just don't understand much...
but thanks Shamrock23 for your explaination...
Another skeptical thing I'd say though... is that how exactly do they calculate historical temps to be accurate (I've read the method...it just isn't solid logically), I think that's just more speculation than solid proof.
Maybe this is off topic but I remember sitting in my 3rd grade science class watching Jurassic Park and they came up with that whole theory that some dino's visual acuity is based on movement from a fossil at the begining of the movie....all these kids believed it because my science teacher said that it's probably true... now, how on earth does anyone know anything about a dino's visual acuity from a bone.... not possible.
Something about global warming just doesn't exactly add up....but I've been wrong before

Oil took the largest drop in one week EVER. That is evidence that crude is grossly over inflated. $60 may have been a little too optimistic, however, I still believe crude will be well below $100 by years end. Just so you have a quote to use around the end of the year I predict $75 - $85 bbl.
