It has been the case for many years. Although, Starbucks is very selective about their franchisees, and I do not believe there are any owned by small independent owner/operators. HMS Host and Safeway are examples of the elite few Starbucks franchisees.

BDGERJMN...no offense (I'm a loser and live on APC), but it's been mentioned many, many times that the Europeans think it's a-okay to be taxed to death, and half of their $10 USD/gallon equivalent is going straight to the government. We're not being spoiled, rather they are being raped.

For those that think $4/gallon of petro is expensive, you need to live in Europe or Japan for a few years. Our problem is that we're spoiled and have grown way to comfortable with cheap fuel. Bottom line is this, we're still not paying what most in Europe or Asia pay for gas yet we use the most in comparison(China not included). Fix the strength of the dollar and gas will follow.
Please don't compare the US with Europe. I could take a bus or train from home to the airport but here in the US you can't. There is no public transportation here. I would be fine paying $8/gallon if i didn't need my car and it was just for my own pleasure or luxury. But that isn't the case. Our goverment has done a wonderful job of keeping the american public hooked on the automobile.

I just paid over 100 Euro (+$135) to fill up my wife's SUV today in Germany. Don't think that is because gas is more expensive over here. It is all in the taxes. Reports are that about 80% of the price of gas in Germany is taxes. European Socialist nations are so broke trying to provide various benefits to all citizens that they have to tax everything to try and stay afloat.

I used to be hooked on triple venti cappucino's from the Starbucks in the local Safeway Marketplace when I lived in Arizona. I have since been rehabilitated.

In some European countries taxes are lower than in than States.

Well when your entire country is the size of Connecticut, it makes it a little easier and cheaper to create mass public transportation.

You make a good point.

I am a fan of Estonia myself. Good place, and beautiful women.

Most of Starbucks airport stores are contracted out by HMS host... the kind of morale and service that reminds me of Mesa.
